ROLL AT
“THE HOUSE OF USHER”
Contact: Boyd Hancock
Principal photography has begun on the
independent film, “The House Of Usher,” a
contemporary adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s
short story. To be shot in Poe’s home state of
Massachusetts, the film will be helmed by award
winning director, Hayley Cloake, whose short
films TEASE, THUMP and TAKEN have screened at
festivals in the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy,
Russia, Romania, Spain, Chile, New Zealand,
Australia and the US. Hayley has also directed
the powerful, award-winning documentary, MUCK UP
DAY, which follows a teenager on his way to jail
after causing a deadly car accident while
partying on the final day of school.
The film is being produced by former literary
agent, Boyd Hancock, who has envisioned the
project as a female-centric endeavor. The
producer, director, several key crew and 100% of
the investors in the project are women, by
design.
Furthermore,
the “Visitor” from Poe’s story, the person from
who’s point of view the entire story is told,
has been recreated as a woman and will be played
by Izabella Miko, who just wrapped three
episodes of “Deadwood.” In addition, the short
story’s “Doctor” has been converted to “Mrs.
Thatcher,” to be played by Beth Grant, a role
that is far more integral to the screen
adaptation.
The character of Rick Usher is a dark,
contemporized adaptation of the short story’s
“Roderick Usher” and will be played by Austin
Nichols (The Day After Tomorrow, Wimbeldon).
Nichols recently wrapped “Glory Road” for Jerry
Bruckheimer.
