that the west wing’s construction occurred during
Joseph Peabody’s
ownership. He commissioned a builder to add the wing to the
main block of the building, constructed for the previous owner
Jonathan Ingersoll. The architectural details of the room
represent the Federal Period. Notice the cornice’s rope
carving and scrolled details. During the 1894 renovations, the
family specifically expressed the “small parlor” remain
unchanged. It became a memorial to Captain Joseph Peabody and
