The Small Parlor

Research indicates that the west wing’s construction occurred during Joseph Peabody’s ownership. He commissioned a builder to add the wing to the main block of the building, constructed for the previous owner Jonathan Ingersoll. The architectural details of the room represent the Federal Period. Notice the cornice’s rope carving and scrolled details. During the 1894 renovations, the family specifically expressed the “small parlor” remain unchanged. It became a memorial to Captain Joseph Peabody and his achievements.
