A gazebo or “Little Summer House” as the family called it was designed by Joseph Peabody’s fourth son Francis and added at the end of the long center garden path in 1840. The onion domed roof ornamented with a guilded pineapple was perhaps influenced by his voyage to Russia on his fathers ship Augustus following his schooling at Dummer Academy. The little “Summer House” graced the garden for 118 years were upon Louise Endicott’s death was inherited by her nephew and moved to Martha’s Vineyard where it still stands today.

In 1989, the Danvers Historical Society raised sufficient funds to reproduce an exact replica of the “little Summer House” and positioned it in the correct location.
